Wittering Camping

If you haven’t noticed already, summer has finally arrived to the UK! Granted it’s a tad on and off but the sun definitely came to say hello. Dillon and I decided to take full advantage of the weather and the new found freedom of my car (how have I lived without it). So in traditional British fashion, we went camping. However we couldn’t just go anywhere, we had to go to my favourite place.

Stubcroft Farm is located in East Wittering, tucked away behind the fields and down a very bumping road. Its easy to miss so I recommend following the online directions as SatNav’s will also send you the wrong way round!

 

As a family run business it is amazing to see this place go from strength to strength over the years. My mum’s friends brother runs and lives on the site, where he also looks after sheep, harvests stock and cares for bees, creating the best honey I’ve ever had. Simon and his team pride themselves on running an ‘environmentally friendly and sustainable campsite’ that functions as a farm and a very popular campsite. Recent development has resulted in the building of a new Amenity block; full of showers and toilets, washing up area and a camp shop. Its definitely an improvement and makes camping life that little bit cleaner!

I first visited Stubcroft back in 2011 (wow thats a throwback) with a huge group of school friends to celebrate finishing out GCSE exams. It was great fun and they did well putting up with 20+ of us. Ever since we have been visiting, almost every summer and with lots different groups (my brother and his friends included). So it was only right I took Dillon for a visit too!

East Wittering beach is a short 10 minute walk from the campsite through a field path. Tesco and Co-Op are a few minutes drive down the road however the onsite shop sells pretty much everything you could want or have forgotten! Feeling lazy? On the way down to the beach front there is a small selection of take always including pizza, fish and chips (obviously) and Chinese. But the best is by the seafront itself; Billy’s on the Beach.

A perfect spot to start our morning, Billy’s offers a selection of breakfast options as well as a lunch, evening and drinks menu. I loved the nautical interior vibe, friendly staff and upbeat music. We both enjoyed our food and freshly squeezed orange juice whilst looking out towards the sea. I wish every morning could start like that!

Although East Wittering is the pebble beach, you MUST go in the evening. Grab your friends, drink/food and a blanket to enjoy the sunset. It has and will always be one of my favourite in the world. Take a look for yourselves…

After watching the sun go down, we enjoyed a starry walk back and some beers by the campfire before bed. Up early the next day, we packed up our things and drove 15 minutes to West Wittering beach. The picturesque one you’ll see when you google ‘The Witterings’, sandy beaches in the UK!? Yes its possible and its beautiful.

However I must warn you, at peak time (its gets extremely busy) it is so costly to park, £6 for the day. Ouch. I am still unsure about where else you can park but I would recommend lift sharing and making the most of your day. Also take food with you, there is a cafe in the beach car park but of course it is pricey. We treated ourselves to an ice cream but took loads of snacks and drinks with us. Despite all this I do really recommend visiting West Wittering because it is just an area of outstanding beautiful and is at the centre of a brilliant wildlife conservation project too.

I think I can honestly say, hand on heart that I will keep coming back to Stubcroft and the Witterings as much as I possibly can. Its a very special place to me, full of good memories with friends and now Dillon. Long may that tradition continue! I’ll be back soon, because how can I stay away from that sunset for too long?
